このたびAMMON KYOTOでは、2023年7月21日(金)より写真家・青山裕企による「SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX A to Z 」を開催いたします。
写真家・青山裕企(あおやまゆうき)の代表的作品「schoolgirl complex」は、2006年から制作をはじめて、2007年にキヤノン写真新世紀優秀賞(南條史生選)、2010年に写真集を刊行、シリーズ累計10万部以上のベストセラーになりました。2013年に、作品を原案とした映画「スクールガール・コンプレックス〜放送部篇〜」(主演: 森川葵・門脇麦)を公開。同級生の女の子と全く話せない悶々とした高校生活を過ごしてきた青山が、思春期の頃の女性に対する妄想を膨らませて制作してきた作品が、幅広い支持を得るに至りました。
関西初の大規模な個展となる本展では、2021年に刊行された15年分の「schoolgirl complex」の全貌(A to Z)をまとめた写真集「SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX A to Z」に収録された全500点の作品をすべて展示する試みを中心に、以降撮影された新作も合わせて発表いたします。
AMMON KYOTO is pleased to present "SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX A to Z" an exhibition by photographer Yuki Aoyama, starting on Friday 21st July 2023.
The "schoolgirl complex" series of works by Yuki Aoyama, which began in 2006, won the Canon New Cosmos of Photography Excellence Award (selected by Fumio Nanjo) in 2007, and was published in 2010 as a best-selling photo book have sold more than total of 100,000 copies. In 2013, "Schoolgirl Complex - Broadcasting Club Arc" (starring Aoi Morikawa and Mugi Kadowaki), a movie based on his work, was released. Aoyama, who spent his agonizing high school years not being able to talk to girls in his class at all, has gained wide support for the works he has created based on his adolescent fantasies about women.
This exhibition, Aoyama's first large-scale solo show in the Kansai region, will focus on his attempt to exhibit all 500 works included in "SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX A to Z," a photo book compiling the entire "schoolgirl complex" of 15 years (A to Z) published in 2021, as well as new works photographed since then. The exhibition will also include new works taken since the book was published.
ARTIST STATEMENT
「schoolgirl complex」は、
記号的な存在である女子学生をモチーフに、凝視から生まれるさまざまな妄想やフェティシズムを、淡い憧憬としてパッケージした作品です。透けるシャツ・ソックス・チェックのスカートからのびる足・膝裏・ほくろ・かさぶたなど、画一的な制服を身にまとっていても、彼女たちの個性の痕跡はたしかに存在していて、思春期の頃の私は、それらに対して強い妄想と欲望を抱いていました。それと同時に、まだ女性経験がなかった私は、
女性に対して強い恐怖心（コンプレックス）も抱いていました。
そんな複雑な感情・妄想・欲望を、徹底的に洗練された形で表現して、記号化することにより、
私は思春期の儚さや危うさを多面的に表現したいと考えています。

Even though they wear uniforms, there are traces of their individuality, such as their transparent shirts, socks, legs stretching out from their checked skirts, the backs of their knees, moles, scabs, etc. When I was an adolescent, I had strong fantasies and desires for these things. At the same time, I had a strong fear (complex) of women because I had not yet had any experience with women.
By expressing and symbolizing such complex emotions, fantasies, and desires in a thoroughly refined form, I hope to
express the fragility and danger of adolescence from multiple perspectives

ペンギンとショートヘアと猫をこよなく愛する“究極の晴れ男”
フェティッシュ(偏愛)だけどイノセント(純真)な作風で、
制服やコンプレックスを魅力的に撮影するミスター・ポートレイト
1978年、愛知県名古屋市生まれ。
2002年、自転車で日本縦断と世界二周の旅の道中で写真の道で生きることを決意。
2005年、筑波大学人間学類心理学専攻卒業後、上京して写真家として独立。
2007年、キヤノン写真新世紀優秀賞受賞。
ギャラリー・出版レーベル・オンラインコミュニティを運営。現在、東京都在住。
『ソラリーマン』『schoolgirl complex』『少女礼讃』など、“日本社会における記号的な存在”をモチーフにしながら、自分自身の思春期観や父親・少女像などを反映させた作品を制作。
2009年より写真集などの著書を刊行、現在100冊を突破(翻訳版も多数)。台湾・香港・中国・シンガポール・スペイン・ニューヨークなど、海外で個展やアートフェアなどに多数参加。
『schoolgirl complex』は、2013年に映画化、写真集は累計10万部以上のベストセラーとなる。
吉高由里子・指原莉乃・生駒里奈・オリエンタルラジオなど、時代のアイコンとなる女優・アイドル・タレントの写真集の撮影を担当。広告・企業・雑誌のグラビア・書籍の装丁・CD・アーティスト写真など、ポートレート撮影を中心に活動。撮るだけでなく、書く仕事(エッセイ・写真実用書)、教える仕事(講演・ワークショップ・講師)なども行う。TV・ラジオなど、メディア出演多数。
お金マイナス・人脈ゼロで、写真を始めて25年目、上京・独立してから18年目。自分なりの戦略で、写真業界を“ファーストペンギン”を目指して泳ぎ続けている。

Mr. Portrait has a fetishistic but innocent style,
capturing school uniforms and complexes in a fascinating way.
Born 1978 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
In 2002, during a bicycle trip across Japan and around the world, decided to pursue photography.
In 2005, after graduating the College of Psychology at the School of Human Sciences from the University of Tsukuba, moved to Tokyo to set up his own business as a photographer.
In 2007, won the Canon New Cosmos of Photography Excellence Award.
Manages a gallery, publishing label and online community. Currently resides in Tokyo.
Has produced works such as “Sorari-man”, “Schoolgirl Complex” and “Shojo Raisan” that reflect his own views on adolescence and images of fathers and girls, while using " Symbolic existence in Japanese society " as motifs.
Since 2009, has published more than 100 books, including a collection of photographs (and many translated editions). Has participated in numerous solo exhibitions and art fairs abroad, including in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Spain and New York.
“Schoolgirl Complex" was made into a film in 2013, and the photo book became a bestseller with a total of more than 100,000 copies sold.
Has taken charge of photobooks for iconic actresses, idols and celebrities of the era, including Yuriko Yoshitaka, Rino Sashihara, Rina Ikoma and Oriental Radio. Focuses on portrait photography, including advertising, corporate and magazine photogravure, book binding, CD and artist photography. Also writes (essays, practical photography books) and teaches (lectures, workshops, instructor), and has appeared on TV, radio and other media.
It's been 25 years since started photography with no money and zero connections, and 18 years since I moved to Tokyo and set up my own business. With his own strategies, has been swimming in the photography industry, aiming to be the "first penguin".
